Grassroots lunches fund 422 children to access sport

Sport enthusiasts will understand just how much sport can change a life. Yet, across our 1,200+ families last year, financial barriers created impossible budget decisions – swimming lessons or school shoes. Footy registration or groceries. Dance class or petrol money.

These aren't occasional dilemmas – they can be the weekly reality for grandparents, aunts and uncles who have stepped in to raise children affected by parental drug use. Registration fees, uniforms, equipment, and transport costs can quickly add up to hundreds of dollars per child – money that often isn't available.

Grassroots Sports Club are helping to bridge this gap. Last year, their events funded sport for 422 Mirabel children – with all sporting expenses directly covered by funds raised. Some children even went on to represent their state, win medals and earn black belts.
